Domestic violence is a epidemic in our community. As a volunteer in the Travis County Sheriff’s Victim Services Unit I have seen far too many lives damaged by domestic violence. My opponent has advocated lowering the penalty for Strangulation Family Violence because of how many people it puts in our jail. This sends a terrible message that Family Violence is not very serious. I disagree and I will continue to fight for strong penalties on Strangulation Family Violence crimes that allow the victim time to get away while the attacker is in jail for a longer period.
